HOBART AUSTRALIA, September 30TH 2008 [wire update February 2nd 2009]:
Justin
Melvey star of Days of our Lives and General Hospital will host the new
reality Australian TV Show "the Phone".
"The Phone" is based on a Dutch TV show which pits contestants in a race
against time and each other to accomplish a mission and win a cash prize.
MTV are also making their own version of the Dutch show.
The MTV series will be produced by Justin Timberlake.
The Battlefield LIVE episode begins with two strategically placed cell
phones ringing at opposite ends of a Hobart, Tasmania.
During the show Justin Melvey communicates with the game players via cell phone, as a
helicopter in the sky tracks their every move, exploit and error – with each
failed task chipping away at the cash prize.
The gamers are thrown into an intense race where they must communicate via
cell phone to succeed.
The Tassy crew led by Jonathon Simonetis organized the high noon
showdown.
"It was an exciting gaming gun battle which was the finale
of the episode," said Jonathon from
Tas Laser
Skirmish.
This final challenge used
Battlefield LIVE gaming guns to simulate the
combat.
“We’re turning the reality competition format on its head and plunging the
contestants into a real life ‘Bourne Identity’ — not just in the tone and
creative, but also in terms of the visual style and pacing,” said Tony
Disanto, executive Vice President of programming and series development for
MTV said.
“Each week will be an action packed mini-movie. When you watch,
your heart will pound as hard as the contestants. This is popcorn TV!”
MTV's "The Phone” is scheduled to premiere fall 2008.
The Australian clone premiered this week, 2nd February 2009, on Fox Cable.
